No. Students in the Summer Academies earn a Certificate of Completion and do not receive an official University of Pennsylvania transcript. Only the Pre-College Programs earn college credit and a corresponding Penn transcript. Academy students may also request letters of recommendation from their Penn instructors.
Residential students have access to the residence hall, lounges, the gym, dining halls and libraries when classes are not in session. Residential staff plan daily activities — trivia and arts-and-crafts evenings among them — and extracurricular activities and trips are part of the programme. Outside those, students are usually studying, working on assignments, or exploring University City with the friends they have made.
Academies are led by University of Pennsylvania faculty and long-standing professionals in the field of study, with support from graduate and undergraduate teaching assistants. Eligibility is current ninth to eleventh grade. International students are welcome; a tourist or B-2 visa is required.
