Benenden Summer School — Sustainable Futures

Benenden Summer School «Sustainable Futures» is a two-week residential programme at Benenden School, a leading UK independent boarding school set in the Kent countryside near Cranbrook. Running from Monday 5 July to Sunday 18 July 2027, the programme welcomes boys and girls in two age groups, 11–13 and 14–16, making the summer course co-educational even though Benenden is a girls' school during term time. The course is built on Benenden's enquiry-based model and places sustainability at its heart. Students receive at least 20 hours of academic content per week through workshops, lectures and independent study sessions, taught in classes of no more than 15. The programme is project-driven: students are given the tools and the opportunity to pursue their own interests, develop solutions to the challenges that the businesses, governments and societies of tomorrow will face, and showcase their talents at the end of the course. A minimum English level of B1 (Intermediate) is required to take part. Away from the classroom, a full programme of social and sporting activities provides balance to academic study. Summer students have access to the school's facilities, including a swimming pool, tennis courts, playing fields and a sports hall. The timetable also features five excursions per course — three full days, provisionally to Brighton, Oxford and Thorpe Park, and two half days — with packed lunches provided on excursion days. Students board in Benenden's Medway and Marshall houses, where they experience the camaraderie of boarding life supported by experienced pastoral staff. Catering is full board: breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks are all included, with a variety of options at each meal, and specific dietary requirements can be catered for when notified during booking. The fee for the two-week programme is £4,896 and covers academic content, accommodation, meals, activities and excursions. In keeping with the programme's sustainability focus, students are encouraged to choose lower-impact modes of transport where possible, and those who fly are invited to consider offsetting the carbon emissions of their flight.
