GLS Berlin Splash Summer Camp for Teenagers in Blossin

Berlin Splash is the lakeside option among the GLS summer camps for teenagers in Germany. The camp is based at the Blossin Youth Education Centre on Lake Wolzig, a quiet village setting roughly forty minutes south of Berlin by train or bus, and it hosts up to seventy teenagers from more than fifty countries at a time. The teaching programme is built around twenty German lessons a week, four each weekday morning, each lasting forty-five minutes. Classes are capped at fifteen students and are grouped across four levels, from complete beginners through to advanced, so a teenager arriving without any German sits in a different room from one who has studied the language for years. Because everyone on campus comes from a different country, German quickly becomes the shared language outside the classroom as well. Afternoons and evenings belong to the activity programme. The campus has its own harbour on the lake, with canoes, stand-up paddle boards and sailing boats, and two supervised activities are organised every day. Alongside the water sports there is a climbing wall, a hall used for inline skating, an indoor gym and fitness studio, a basketball court, a football pitch and beach volleyball courts. Evenings tend to end with beach games or a barbecue by the water. Berlin itself is part of the programme rather than an optional extra. Each week includes two trips into the city, one full day and one half day, taking in landmarks such as Museum Island and the East Side Gallery, interactive museums and the neighbourhoods that give the capital its reputation. Some weeks add a trip to Potsdam and the Sanssouci palace grounds. Transport and entry fees for these excursions are covered by the camp fee. Participants live in guesthouses on the campus itself, sharing rooms of two or three with campers from other countries; each room has its own shower and toilet. Full board is served in the campus cafeteria, which has indoor and outdoor seating. GLS staff stay in the same houses and supervise the group around the clock, and medical, luggage and liability insurance is included in the fee. Stays are flexible, starting from a single week, with arrivals and departures on Sundays throughout the summer season. Transfers between Berlin airports or main stations and the camp are arranged by the school and charged separately, with a shared option on the regular Sunday schedule and a private option for arrivals outside it.
