As the epicentre of Scottish culture and home to a UNESCO World Heritage Site within the city, Edinburgh offers students a unique blend of history, culture, and modern student life. Our brand new programme at Oxford International Edinburgh invites students to immerse themselves in Scottish tradition and lifestyles while studying English in a city renowned for its festivals, including the world-famous Edinburgh Festival Fringe, and as one of the gateways to the stunning Scottish Highlands. The Oxford International Edinburgh Summer Programme is designed for students aged 12 to 17 who wish to improve their English language skills while experiencing the student-centred life of Scotland's capital city. The programme combines 15 hours of English lessons per week with a full schedule of activities and excursions to Edinburgh's historic attractions and beyond, including visits to Glasgow and Stirling. The main goal is to bring English to life through engaging lessons, cultural immersion, and exciting explorations of Edinburgh's iconic landmarks, all while living with carefully selected local host families.

The programme offers 15 hours of English lessons per week, delivered in classes with an average size of 15 students to ensure individual attention and active participation. Students are placed into classes according to their English level, which ranges from Elementary to Proficiency, and the programme can be adjusted to accommodate lower levels if needed.

The curriculum is designed in-house and uses engaging, modern topics that students can relate to. The programme's collaboration with National Geographic Learning ensures access to high-quality, engaging course materials that bring the world into the classroom. Each lesson provides students with opportunities to reflect on their learning process and develop critical thinking skills while using English. Additional academic choices include the Trinity GESE exam, as well as customised curriculums such as Employability for the 21st Century (available for students aged 14+ with minimum English level B1, minimum 12 students) and Academic Skills for Higher Education (available for students with minimum English level B1, minimum 12 students).

The programme is all-inclusive and covers English language teaching (15 hours per week), course materials, registration fees, a graduation certificate, homestay accommodation, all meals (breakfast and dinner at homestay, with meal cards provided for lunch), return airport transfers, and all activities and excursions as per the programme. Please note that there may be slight differences in what is included depending on the specific programme and length of stay. For a supplementary cost of £140 per student, the Trinity GESE exam is available subject to demand and minimum student numbers. Unterkunft

Students stay with local host families selected according to British Council Guidelines, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment. All students stay in twin or triple rooms, providing the opportunity to share their experience with a peer from a different country. Families are located within a 40-minute journey time from the Edinburgh school by public transport, allowing students to experience authentic Scottish daily life while conveniently accessing the school and city centre. Bed linen and towels are provided, and laundry is available for stays longer than one week. Staying with a host family offers students a unique and authentic experience of Scottish culture, allowing them to practise their English in a natural setting.

Full board is provided, with breakfast and dinner served by the host family every day. Students receive meal cards for lunch, which are included in the all-inclusive programme. A mixture of packed meals and meal cards are provided on excursions, ensuring students are well-nourished during full-day trips. The first meal is dinner on the day of arrival, and the last meal is a packed lunch on the day of departure. Special dietary requirements, such as vegetarian or other preferences, can be accommodated upon request, subject to prior notification during the booking process.

Full-day excursions explore the historic city of Edinburgh and beyond. Evening social events such as disco nights provide opportunities for students to mix and make new friends. Edinburgh has regular and modern bus services throughout the city, and students will easily be able to use this system to come to school and on excursions around Edinburgh.
