Über den Kurs

Teaching follows a communicative and interactive approach, with experienced and highly qualified teachers creating a dynamic and vibrant classroom experience that is distinctly different from term‑time education. A pre‑course assessment helps to understand students' English levels before they arrive, and they also speak with a teacher on the first day so as to be correctly placed in a class tailored to their abilities and interests. Small class sizes are guaranteed. For English Language courses, lessons are designed to build confidence in spoken English through enthusiastic interaction, culminating in students producing and delivering a presentation at the end of the course. Classroom language practice is underpinned by a 24/7 English experience throughout the camp, with all other electives and activities being delivered in English. For academic courses such as Entrepreneurship, Global Leadership and PPE, and AI and Big Data, students can earn a globally recognised IOEE Level 2 Professional Award. The English for Academic Purposes course focuses on the specific English language skills required to study at English universities, with a focus on the IELTS exam tasks.

Mehr über dieses Camp

Charterhouse Summer School takes place on the Charterhouse campus at Godalming in Surrey, southern England — 240 acres of historic buildings and grounds, described by the provider as one of the best independent school venues in the country. Programme and activities. Seven courses are listed, and the range is unusually academic for a summer camp: Artificial Intelligence and Big Data, Engineering, Technology and Design, English for Academic Purposes, English Language, Entrepreneurship, Global Leadership and Politics, and Liberal Arts and The Humanities. Six of these are for ages 13 to 17. The English Language course is the exception, opening at 10 — so a 10, 11 or 12-year-old can attend, but only on that one course. Families with a younger child should be clear about this before applying for a subject course. Accommodation. Students stay in on-site accommodation in single, twin or quad bedrooms, including traditional nineteenth-century boarding houses in the main school. The spread from single to quad is wide, so families should ask what will actually be allocated and whether a single carries a supplement, rather than assuming. Ages, dates and duration. The subject courses run for 13 to 17, and English Language for 10 to 17. Two sessions are listed, both starting in mid-July. Location and travel. Godalming is in Surrey, south-west of London. The provider states the campus is within fifty minutes of both Heathrow and Gatwick — having two major airports equally accessible is a practical advantage, since families can choose whichever offers better flights rather than being tied to one. London is around an hour away by train. Who the programme may suit. This school may suit academically motivated teenagers who want a specific subject rather than general English — the AI, engineering and entrepreneurship courses are closer to a pre-university taster than to a language camp. It also suits families who value a historic campus and simple airport access. Families whose child needs general English rather than academic content have the English Language course, which is also the only route in for under-13s.
