Zigotours Tunisia Camp: Djerba and the Dahar

The stay has two halves. On the sea side there is the beach of Djerba - burning sand, turquoise water at thirty-two degrees and more, a Mediterranean landscape in a semi-arid climate - with swimming, time to do nothing, and a boat trip out to watch dolphins. A photo rally runs through Djerbahood, an open-air street art museum, and the group stays close to traditional Tunisian life in the old town of Houmt Souk. On the desert and mountain side there is an excursion into the desert, Ksar Ghilane and its hot springs to bathe in, and a camel trek that ends with a bivouac in the dunes. Then the panoramic view and craft workshops of Guermessa, a night in the troglodyte village of Chenini, the ksour of Hallouf and Hadada, and Matmata, familiar from the screen.

The price published by the operator covers accommodation, meals, the activities and excursions of the published programme, and insurance. Zigo Tours takes out cover for every participant - assistance and repatriation, individual accident, third-party liability, legal costs and baggage - and advances medical expenses during the stay. Travel is by direct flight from Paris to Djerba and back. Pre-travel from regional cities can be arranged by the operator's transport department; it is quoted case by case and is not part of the published price.

The group sleeps in hotels for most of the stay and bivouacs in the desert for the night in the dunes, after the camel trek. The operator does not publish the room configuration of the hotels.

Meals are taken in small local restaurants along the route.

Swimming and lazing on the beach at Djerba, a boat trip to watch dolphins, a photo rally through the street art of Djerbahood, an excursion into the desert, bathing in the hot springs of Ksar Ghilane, a camel trek with a bivouac in the dunes, and visits to the ksour, the craft workshops of Guermessa and the troglodyte villages of Chenini and Matmata.

Accommodation is in hotels, with one night bivouacked in the desert. Travel on the ground is by local and private transport meeting the safety standards of the country.

A small group - at least twelve participants and at most sixteen - with a qualified director and activity leaders, one adult for every eight young people. The itinerary moves, so the group changes base as it goes from the island to the mountains and the desert.
