Punta Cana and Jarabacoa Camp for Teenagers

Zigotours runs this camp as one fixed itinerary for a single small group of teenagers aged fourteen to seventeen. There is no choice of modules and no lesson timetable. The operator caps the group at sixteen participants, does not run the departure below twelve, and sends a qualified director and camp leaders with it at a ratio of one adult to every eight young people. The programme is led in French.\n\nThe first half is the coast. Punta Cana supplies the postcard: white sand, coconut palms and turquoise water as far as the eye goes. The programme does not stop there. The group takes a boat out to Saona Island, inside the Cotubanama national park, which is one of the most visited reserves in the country and one of the richest — lagoons, mangroves and a great deal of marine life. There is snorkelling, swimming in natural pools, time simply spent on the water, and a meeting with a local association that works on protecting the reserve. Fishing villages along the coast are part of the same stage.\n\nThe second half moves inland to Jarabacoa, in the central cordillera. This is a region known for mountains, rivers and nature tourism rather than resorts, and the operator says plainly that the point of going there is to get away from the resort version of the country. The headline activity is rafting on the Yaque del Norte, the longest river in the Caribbean. A national park visit and wildlife watching fill out the stage, and the evenings keep the ordinary camp rhythm of games, swimming and get-togethers.\n\nTravel out and back is by scheduled flight with a stopover between Paris and Punta Cana. On the ground the group uses public transport, buses and minibuses. Accommodation is simple hotels, with rooms of two beds and more; the operator notes that double beds may sometimes have to be shared and that bathrooms may be private or shared depending on the place.
