Florida Dream is a touring camp for teenagers on the southern tip of Florida, run by the French operator Zigotours. The group flies from Paris to Miami and moves between three very different parts of the state by private minibus. In Miami the programme covers the Art Deco quarter, the Cuban streets of Little Havana and the open-air street-art museum of Wynwood Walls, with swimming at Miami Beach and an evening stroll along Ocean Drive. Everglades National Park follows: an airboat ride through the mangroves, crocodiles and wild birds, and, depending on the local schedule, an evening at an American sports fixture. The camp finishes in the Florida Keys, reached by the highway that hops from island to island, where the group spends its last days on the turquoise water of the archipelago. Teenagers are based in a motel set midway between Miami and the Everglades, in rooms of two to four with private shower and toilet and an outdoor pool on site. Catering is co-managed: each participant takes a turn helping to prepare the meals. The team is a qualified director with leaders, one adult for every eight young people, and the group is capped so that everyone travels in the same minibuses.

About

About the Course

A touring programme rather than a course: there are no lessons and no classroom. The group is led in French by a qualified director and leaders, and the route is fixed in advance — Miami, Everglades National Park and the Florida Keys — with a private minibus between the three. Everything is run by the camp team, so nothing on the itinerary has to be booked or paid for locally.

What’s Included

The school offers a special discount - ask us for details. The price covers the return flight from Paris, full board, the full leadership team, accommodation, all travel on the ground, every activity named in the programme, repatriation and personal accident cover, and the administrative follow-up before and after the trip. Personal spending, visa fees where they apply, vaccinations, activities outside the programme, optional cover and the connection from a city other than Paris are not included.

Accommodation

One fixed base for the whole stay, a motel set midway between Miami and Everglades National Park. Rooms sleep two to four, with a private shower and toilet; double beds may have to be shared. There is an outdoor pool in the grounds, a reception area and a dining room the group uses for its own cooking.

Meal Plan

Full board, co-managed. Zigotours runs this camp as a colonie cogérée: participants take turns helping the team prepare the meals rather than being served in a canteen. Meals are eaten at the base or packed for days out in the Everglades and the Keys.

Activities & Excursions

Miami first: the Art Deco quarter, the Cuban streets of Little Havana, the murals of Wynwood Walls, swimming at Miami Beach and an evening walk along Ocean Drive. Then Everglades National Park, crossed by airboat through the mangroves, where crocodiles and wading birds are the point of the trip; depending on what is on locally, the group may also go to an American sports fixture. The last stretch is the Florida Keys, reached by the overseas highway, with time on the turquoise water of the archipelago.

Facilities

The base offers an outdoor pool, a lounge and reception area, a dining room the group cooks in, and rooms with their own bathroom. Everything else on the programme happens away from the base: national park, beaches, city districts and the islands, all reached by the camp's own minibuses.

Camp Experience

A small group - the operator caps it - travelling with the same adults for the whole route, one adult to every eight young people. The mix of city, wetland and island means the days are unalike: a museum-free street-art walk, an airboat under mangroves, a swim off the Keys. Because catering is co-managed, teenagers share the daily running of the camp rather than being catered for, which is what past participants pick out in the reviews the operator publishes.

More about this camp

Florida is often reduced to theme parks. This camp goes the other way: it takes teenagers to the south of the state and splits the stay between a city, a wetland and an archipelago. Miami comes first. The group walks the Art Deco quarter and Ocean Drive, spends time in Little Havana, and stops at Wynwood Walls, where the street art has effectively turned a warehouse district into an open-air gallery. There is swimming at Miami Beach, and the evenings are spent in the city. Everglades National Park is the second part. An airboat carries the group through the mangroves, which is the practical way to see crocodiles and wading birds in a landscape that is neither land nor open water. If the local calendar allows, the operator adds an evening at an American sports fixture - a piece of the country that is hard to get at as a visitor. The Florida Keys close the trip. The overseas highway hops from island to island to reach them, and the last days are spent on clear, shallow water at the southern edge of the United States. The camp is based in one place throughout, a motel between Miami and the park, with rooms of two to four, private bathrooms and an outdoor pool. Catering is co-managed - participants take turns cooking with the team - and the group is small, with a qualified director and leaders at a ratio of one adult to eight teenagers. Flights leave from Paris; the operator publishes a connection supplement for two dozen other French cities.
