Stockholm - Copenhague: a winter teen camp across two Scandinavian capitals

A supervised winter stay for teenagers aged fourteen to seventeen across two Scandinavian capitals, run by the French operator Temps Jeunes. The group starts in Stockholm, transfers to Copenhagen partway through and travels from France with its leaders. The working language of the group is French; this is a travel and discovery programme, not a language course, with no lessons and no levels.

The package covers the accompanied flight, the transfer between the two capitals, accommodation, all meals, the activity and excursion programme and the supervising team. The headline price is the package leaving from Paris: travel is part of the package for everyone, and each of the other French departure cities costs a set amount more, listed one by one in Extras. A departure city is only operated with a minimum of three participants, and the stay runs only if the published minimum group is reached. An identity card or passport valid for the stay, the European health insurance card and the parental authorisations are the family’s responsibility.

In Copenhagen the group stays in a youth hostel, in rooms of four to six beds. Young people take part in running the stay, including the shopping and the cooking.

The young people take part in the shopping and the cooking alongside the leaders, and some meals are eaten in local restaurants. In Copenhagen the food halls of Torvehallerne and the street food market at Reffen are part of the programme.

Stockholm is a city built across islands, and the group walks it: Gamla Stan, the quays, the viewpoints and the outside of the royal palace, with the Nobel Prize Museum and the National Museum among the visits and time left to take the city at the group’s own pace. After the transfer, Copenhagen brings Christiansborg Palace, the Round Tower and its view over the whole city, and a choice between the hands-on Experimentarium and the Guinness World Records Museum. The group covers Nyhavn and its coloured houses, the Stroget shopping street, the Little Mermaid, Christianshavn, the Kastellet and the alternative quarter of Christiania, and sees the city from the water on a canal cruise. The set piece of the stay is a full day at Tivoli, among the rides and the lit gardens.

The stay moves between two capitals and is not based in one building.

Two capitals in one week, and they are not the same city twice. Stockholm is water, islands and museums; Copenhagen is canals, bicycles, street food and a funfair that has been running since long before anyone on the trip was born. The group runs its own domestic life, from the market to the kitchen. Supervision is one adult for every eight participants, with a qualified director and a first-aid trained leader in the team, and the group travels and lives together from departure to return.
