About

About the Course

Two Irish-language immersion courses run in the same five sessions: a pre-Junior Certificate course for 1st and 2nd year students and a pre-Leaving Certificate course for 3rd and 5th year students, also open to 4th year (Transition Year) students. Three formal classes run each morning from 9.00am, with Junior Certificate topics covered interactively and a strong emphasis on the Irish oral. Leaving Certificate students receive extra classes three times a week at no additional cost.

What’s Included

The school offers a special discount — ask us for details. The course fee covers accommodation with a Gaeltacht host family, all meals, tuition, activities and laundry. A deposit is payable at booking and forms part of the total course fee.

Accommodation

Students live with a Bean or Fear an Tí — a Gaeltacht host family — in private residential houses, which differ in size and in the number of bedrooms. Places are arranged according to gender, age and friendship requests; students attending on their own are placed with others of similar age and the same gender. Students on a Bean or Fear an Tí course do not mix with students attending a campus course.

Meal Plan

Meals are provided by the host family for the duration of the stay and are included in the course fee.

Activities & Excursions

Irish is learned through activities outside the classroom: sports, trips to historical sites across west Kerry and, when the weather suits, afternoons on the beach. The college also teaches traditional Irish music and dance, with the aim that every student leaves with a few steps and a few words of a song. All activities are supervised by trained staff.

Facilities

Courses are held at the college venues in Ceann Trá, An Fheothanach, Lios Póil, An Mhuiríoch and Baile an Fheirtéaraigh on the Dingle Peninsula, with outdoor playing fields used for sport.

Camp Experience

Coláistí Chorca Dhuibhne has been running Irish courses from Baile an Fheirtéaraigh in west Kerry for almost forty years. It is a subsidiary of Comharchumann Forbartha Chorca Dhuibhne, the West Kerry Development Co-operative, and a registered charity.
