More about this camp

Camp Champions is a traditional overnight summer camp on the shores of Lake LBJ in Marble Falls, Texas, approximately one hour from Austin. It welcomes campers from across the United States and from other countries, and combines a traditional camp atmosphere with what the camp describes as world-class facilities. Programme and activities. This is a recreational overnight camp rather than an academic or language programme, built around the lake and the camp's facilities. Families seeking tuition should look elsewhere in the catalogue. Accommodation — read before booking. Campers stay in rustic cabins housing eight to ten campers with one or two counsellors living alongside them. The cabins are not air-conditioned, which the camp states is deliberate, to encourage community building. In Texas in summer this is a substantive consideration rather than a detail: families should satisfy themselves that their child will be comfortable, and ask the camp how heat is managed during the day and at night. Ages, dates and duration. The booking data shows sessions for ages 6 to 17, while the camp's own description refers to campers from 5. Families with a 5-year-old should confirm eligibility directly rather than relying on either figure. Nineteen sessions are listed, beginning at the end of May — by some margin the longest season and widest choice of dates of any camp in this catalogue, which makes it practical for families with awkward holiday windows. Location and travel. Marble Falls is in the Texas Hill Country, on Lake LBJ, roughly an hour north-west of Austin. Austin-Bergstrom is the nearest major airport. Transfer arrangements are not published and should be confirmed with the camp, particularly for international campers. Who the programme may suit. This camp may suit families wanting a long-established American overnight camp with a lakefront setting and an unusually flexible calendar, and children who thrive in a communal cabin environment with counsellors present. It may suit less well children who are sensitive to heat, given the absence of air conditioning, or families looking for academic or language content. International families should confirm visa arrangements and how unaccompanied minors are supported.
