More about this camp

This summer language programme is hosted at Barnard College, Columbia University, at 3009 Broadway in Manhattan, New York City. It is residential, with students aged 14 to 17 living on the college campus. Programme and activities. The course listed is General English. The setting is the substance of the offer here: the campus sits in Morningside Heights in upper Manhattan, giving students access to New York City for the excursion and activity element. Few programmes in this catalogue are based on a working university campus in a major world city, and that combination is the main reason families consider it. Accommodation and supervision. Students stay in university residence accommodation on the Barnard College campus, in single-gender arrangements. Living on campus means teaching and accommodation are on the same site rather than requiring a daily journey across the city. Families should ask the provider directly about supervision arrangements and evening curfews, as these are not published in detail and matter more in a city setting than on an enclosed rural campus. Ages, dates and duration. The programme accepts students aged 14 to 17. Four sessions are listed, beginning in mid-July. The older minimum age is consistent with a city-based university programme rather than a children's camp. Location and travel. Barnard College is on Broadway in Morningside Heights, upper Manhattan, on the subway network with direct access to the rest of the city. New York is served by JFK, Newark and LaGuardia airports. Transfer arrangements are not stated as included and should be confirmed with the provider, as journey times from each airport differ substantially. Who the programme may suit. This programme may suit older teenagers curious about studying in the United States, families who want a genuine US university campus experience alongside English tuition, and students mature enough for a city environment. It may suit less well younger children, or families looking for a contained countryside camp with a full sports and outdoor programme. Families travelling from outside the US should check visa requirements well in advance, as these are not covered here.
